Victoria University Of Wellington Wifi

Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington provides three wireless networks to suit three different user groups and are available across all campuses.



Users should select one of the following networks:

  1. WellingtonUniversity—for students and staff
  2. WellingtonUniversityGuest—for visiting guests and non-staff contractors
  3. eduroam—for visiting academic staff or students.

We’ve included more information and detailed instructions on how to connect to each network.

WellingtonUniversity wireless network

To use the ‘WellingtonUniversity’ wireless network, you must have a University username and password. Learn how to connect your device.

Staff using laptops and wireless capable desktop computers issued by the University should automatically connect to ‘WellingtonUniversity’. Staff will also be granted access to resources such as H, M, Research and other drives, as well as to administrative platforms and tools provided by the University.

All other devices are assigned a network with access to the internet and some services hosted on campus.





Staff and students with personal or mobile devices will need to connect to the network.

Android

  1. Browse to your device’s Wi-Fi connections
  2. Select ‘WellingtonUniversity’ wireless network.
  3. Enter your username and password.
    1. Leave ‘Anonymous Identity’ blank if presented with this option.
  4. Ensure the following options are selected if asked. Not all options will be present on every device.
    1. ‘CA Certificate’ to be ‘Unspecified’ or ‘Don’t validate’.
    2. Set ‘EAP Method’ to be ‘PEAP’.
    3. Set ‘Phase 2 Authentication’ to be ‘MSCHAPV2’.
  5. Tap ‘Connect’.

Apple iOS, iPhone and iPad

  1. Browse to your device’s Wi-Fi connection
  2. Select ‘WellingtonUniversity’ wireless network.
  3. Enter your username and password.
  4. Trust the certificate ‘ise.vuw.ac.nz’ issued by QuoVadis.

Apple MacOS, MacBook and iMac

  1. Browse to your device’s Wi-Fi connection.
  2. Select ‘WellingtonUniversity’ wireless.
  3. Enter your username and password.
  4. Click ‘Join’.
  5. If prompted to ‘Verify certificate’ press ‘Continue’.
    1. You may be asked to enter your local Mac password to verify the ‘Certificate Trust Settings’.
    2. Click ‘Update settings’.

Microsoft Windows 7, 8 and 10

  1. Browse to your device’s Wi-Fi connection.
  2. Select ‘WellingtonUniversity’ wireless network.
  3. Enter your username and password.
  4. Click ‘Connect’ to proceed.
