Our Tauranga campus is located in the heart of Tauranga’s CBD, surrounded by eateries, shopping and accommodation options. The campus itself is a brand-new multi-level building, featuring all the same student services as the Hamilton campus, with the advantage of being in the middle of the city.
The campus is designed to promote collaboration and social learning, with communal study and social spaces.

Study Options
We offer a growing range of qualifications and subjects to suit your interests and career plans in the Bay of Plenty.
CBD campus
As a Tauranga student, you will study in a brand-new four-storey campus building that features communal study and social spaces, a 24-hour computer lab, library, central atrium, lecture theatres and classrooms, a multi-purpose space called Te Manawaroa (also used for noho overnight stays), and an Ātea (open courtyard).
The campus has multiple accessible entry points and three lifts – two in the south tower and one in the north tower.

Our entire Tauranga campus is smokefree.
Campus hours
The campus building is open Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 5.30pm. Outside of these times, you can access the building as follows:
- Monday to Friday 5.30pm to 7.00pm – you will need your student ID card to enter the building through the entrance by the 24 hour lab, via the south side pathway off Durham Lane. You can access the ground floor via the lift.
- Monday to Friday 7.00pm to 7.30am, and on Saturdays and Sundays – access only to the 24-hour computer lab, and to room TCBD.1.27 and 1.30 if you have booked it. You will need your student ID card and pin number to enter the building through the entrance by the 24-hour lab, via the south side pathway off Durham Lane.
Student kitchenette
Situated on the Ground floor, there are six microwaves, a sink, access to boiled water and recycling stations. The kitchenette can be accessed Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 5.30pm.
Vending machines
There are food vending machines in two locations on campus – opposite the 24-hour computer lab/library on Level 1 and in the student kitchenette on the Ground floor.
Café
Café Ultimo is located on the Ground floor and is open Monday to Friday, 8am – 5pm.
Filtered cold water
Bring your own water bottle to fill up with filtered water. Water fountains/stations are located on all levels near the toilet facilities on the Durham Street side of the building.
Toilets
Unisex/gender neutral toilet facilities are located on the Ground floor and Level 1. Seperate male and female toilets are situated on Levels 1, 2 and 3. Accessibility toilets are on each level.
Showers
Student showers are located on the Ground floor.
Recycling stations
The rubbish and recycling bins are located near the toilet facilities on each level of the building. Please take care to place clean recycling in the correct bins as contaminated items will see the whole bin load sent to landfill.
Lockers and secure device chargers
Lockers and secure device chargers are available on a six-hour timer and are situated on each level near the toilet facilities.
Charging points
Power points and USB chargers can be found built into the furniture and throughout the building on each level.
Student deck/courtyard
On Level 3, an outdoor deck offers a study and social space with spectacular views across the city.
Bike racks
Bike racks are located outside the campus building on Durham Lane.
Meeting rooms
Meeting rooms are available for groups of four or more students to book for 1-hour time slots. Rooms 1.19, 1.20 and 1.21 are available Monday to Friday 7.30am – 10pm, and rooms 1.27 and 1.30 are available from Monday to Friday 5pm to 7.30am and on Saturdays and Sundays. You have access to free WiFi on campus. Log into Eduroam.
Coastal Marine Field Station
The Coastal Marine Field Station is a hub for ground-breaking research being conducted in Tauranga Harbour and around the Bay of Plenty. Undergraduate students in the Bachelor of Science will be taught by staff of the Field Station, and postgraduate students will undertake supervised field work and research. Students completing hands-on work will also have access to specialised equipment.
UoW Adams Centre for High Performance
The Adams Centre for High Performance contains the latest equipment for testing and research into sports science. Students studying health, sport and human performance will have access to an environmental chamber, high performance gym, recovery pools, science laboratory and sports medicine and rehabilitation services.
Student services team
Our Student Services Team are located in The Hub on Level 1, Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm. Our Student Advisers, Student Success Coordinator and Programme Administrators are available to provide advice and support – everything from initial programme enquiry, enrolment and paper selection, through to examination and graduation and everything in-between. The team are your first port of call for pastoral care, guidance, advice and to answer any questions you may have around navigating University life.
Accommodation
There are various options available to students looking for accommodation in Tauranga. Our Accommodation Coordinator is based in The Hub on Level 1.

Library services
The Library is located in the 24/7 computer lab on Level 1 (room 1.03), and can provide help with finding relevant resources, APA referencing and using EndNote. A small high-demand collection of books is held at the Tauranga Library and you will have access to the full range of e-resources. If you need a hard-copy resource from the Hamilton campus collection a librarian can request this for you and it will be sent across on the daily shuttle service. See Library Hours. Student learning support
A learning support adviser is available for 20-minute drop-ins from 11am-1pm daily, or longer consultations if necessary. You can book an appointment online.
e-Tuts
The Tauranga campus e-Tuts are students that support both staff and students with e-Learning tools such as the G Suite of Google products, Panopto, Mahara and TurnItIn.
ITS support
Our Tauranga campus ITS Tech Desk is located in The Hub on Level 1. IT support is available between 8.30am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. If the desk is unattended you can also call 0800 Waikato ext. 4008 for help. For teaching room support please use the phone in the room to call the hotline on 6066.
Māori support
If you’re studying at our Tauranga campus, you’ll have access to Te Toka Māori Mentor support, located in The Hub on Level 1. Te Toka Māori Mentors are experienced university students or kaiawhina from different schools of study. They are not lecturers or tutors; they are fellow students who have “been there, done that” and passed successfully. They have a wealth of knowledge and tips to help you successfully navigate your academic journey.

Waikato Students’ Union
The Waikato Students’ Union (WSU) is committed to ensuring you are heard on campus and get the best out of your university experience. A dedicated WSU representative, situated on Level 1, is available to help students in need of independent advice, support with hardship issues or who want to start a club.
Rainbow Corner
The Rainbow Corner is based on Level 1 of The Hub, near the Waikato Students’ Union. It provides all the resources you may need when finding support regarding your sexuality or gender identity.
Chaplaincy
University chaplains are available for pastoral support regardless of your background or beliefs. If you need to talk to someone, Brother Andrew McKean visits the Tauranga campus regularly. Find out more about chaplaincy here.
