The University of Waikato structure is made up of five areas, each of which contains a number of different faculties and schools. These areas are made up of:
- Division of Arts, Law, Psychology and Social Sciences
- Division of Health, Engineering, Computing and Science
- Division of Education
- Waikato Management School
- Te Pua Wānanga ki te Ao – Faculty of Māori and Indigenous Studies
In addition to these five areas of the University, there is also the Waikato Pathways College and Te Mata Kairangi School of Graduate Research.
Division of Arts, Law, Psychology and Social Sciences
School of Arts
The School of Arts provides teaching and research focused on understanding the human condition, the unique ways we experience the world and the different forms of culture manifested from our ingenuity, imagination, resourcefulness and intellectual creativity.
Te Piringa – Faculty of Law
Te Piringa – Faculty of Law provides an innovative, student-focused Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree in a stimulating academic environment. The Faculty’s founding goals of professionalism, biculturalism, and the study of law in context attract an exciting and diverse group of staff and students.
School of Psychology
The School of Psychology teaches a wide range of psychology paths, from neuroscience to social science. Psychology is offered as a subject under a wide range of qualifications.
School of Social Sciences
The School of Social Sciences actively promotes the University’s core motto ‘For the People’. Through a wide rage of subjects and qualifications, social sciences at tertiary level encourages critical thinking and the analysis of how individuals and groups in society relate to each other.
Division of Health, Engineering, Computing and Science
Te Huataki Waiora School of Health
Te Huataki Waiora School of Health provides an innovative platform for bringing together expertise from across the University and our community to explore new ideas and ways of looking at issues and challenges that affect how we live, work and play.
School of Engineering
The School of Engineering applies high tech to solve complex problems, particularly in areas like robotics, smart infrastructure and renewable energy. The School offers eight Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree programmes; Civil, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Chemical and Biological, Environmental, Materials and Processing, Electrical and Electronic, and Software Engineering.
School of Computing & Mathematical Sciences
The School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences provides a stimulating and leading-edge environment of quality relevant teaching programmes and world-class research, producing graduates well matched for the challenges of the contemporary and future workplace.
School of Science
The School of Science offers a range of innovative programmes for the undergraduate degrees of Bachelor of Science and the Bachelor of Science (Technology). The School also hosts the Environmental Research Institute made up of a multi-disciplinary group of researchers, all focused on improving the quality of New Zealand’s natural and physical environment.
Division of Education
Te Kura Toi Tangata School of Education
Te Kura Toi Tangata School of Education provides programmes in areas such as teacher education, counselling, human development, education, educational leadership and education studies. It distinguishes itself among other education schools through its tradition and reputation for innovation, leadership and research.
Waikato Management School
The Waikato Management School has distinguished itself among New Zealand business schools by the relevance and rigour of its education and research, and its belief that business and enterprise are most successful when they improve the communities, societies, and nations in which they operate.
Te Pua Wānanga ki te Ao – Faculty of Māori and Indigenous Studies
Te Pua Wānanga ki te Ao – Faculty of Māori and Indigenous Studies offers programmes in Māori language and linguistics, culture, customs, creative and performing arts, media and communication, Treaty of Waitangi, and development studies.
Waikato Pathways College
Waikato Pathways College provide a range of learning opportunities that are research-informed, locally and internationally connected, dynamic and distinctive. The College offers university preparation courses, and foundation, bridging and English language programmes. They also support international study groups in range of discipline areas and train teachers who want to teach English to adults.
Te Mata Kairangi School of Graduate Research
The School of Graduate Research manages domestic student enquiries related to enrolment, and assists enrolled candidates with administration matters for the following degrees: PhD, MPhil, EdD, DMA, SJD, DLit, DSc and LLD.
