SHS is centrally located on campus in a purpose built facility. We are a team of nurses, general practitioners, mental health and well-being clinicians and administrative staff.

Our mission is to engage with students and the wider university community to support optimum health and well-being, enabling students to reach their full potential during their time at Otago.

Student Health will work in partnership with academic staff and other healthcare providers to deliver professional, quality, innovative, accessible services to students.

We are very excited to be a part of the University of Otago’s Green Impact Programme and look forward to working with the wider team. On 24 September 2019 as part of this programme Student Health was awarded with Seedling level and are now working towards Sapling level.

How to book an appointment

  • If it is a Medical Emergency dial 111 for an ambulance
  • If you need advice about symptoms please call Healthline on 0800 611 116 (inside New Zealand)
  • If you need urgent care please call us on 0800 479 821 (inside New Zealand)
  • We provide urgent, routine and same day appointments. During busy times there may be a wait for routine appointments
  • To make an appointment please contact our reception team on 0800 479 821

Health365 Patient Portal

Student Health has a patient portal called Health365 available for all students.

Health365 enables students to book routine appointments either in person or via Phone call at Student Health and access some of your health information online.

To gain access to Health365 you will need to complete a Health365 enrolment form. The enrolment form outlines your responsibility for the security of your information and requirement for you to advise SH of any inaccuracies on your health record. When you have completed the enrolment form you will be emailed your access details for Health365 from the product provider My Practice.

As a patient at Student Health Health365 will give you access to:

1. Book appointments

  • Routine appointments can be booked with a GP or nurse (to see appointments that can be made with a nurse click here)
  • Mental Health Support / Counselling appointments are not available to book on-line at this time – this may change in the future
  • If you require an appointment sooner than those available on the online system please call Student Health on 0800 479 821 (inside New Zealand)

2. Tasks

  • Provides a list of all recalls / health checks that you may require

Please phone Student Health to book an appointment with a nurse as close as possible to the due date.

3. Allergies

  • A list of all allergies that are recorded on your health file

Please let your clinician know at your next appointment if the information is not correct.

4. Immunisation history

  • All immunisation details that Student Health has recorded for you

5. Account

  • View account details and payment options

6. Measurements

  • Access to view Blood Pressure, weight, height recordings, BMI

International students

Different consultation fees may apply for international students; eligibility for access to primary and secondary health care (including laboratory and radiology services) is based on the Ministry of Health eligibility requirements.

All International students , excluding those with STUDENTSAFE and Unicare insurance, must pay for their consultation and claim back from their insurance.

Laboratory and Radiology charges will depend on the tests required.

Please ensure you have read and understand what conditions may or may not be covered by your insurance provider.

Your policy may not cover you for the following:

  1. Pre-existing conditions: any condition that you have when you arrive in New Zealand, an example of this would be asthma. Unless:
    (a) the condition had been declared and accepted by Allianz in writing as an insured Pre-existing Medical Condition(s); or
    (b) the condition was first diagnosed and coverage was provided under your continuous Studentsafe-policy.
  2. Contraception appointments and prescriptions
  3. Health Screening appointments and laboratory / prescription costs
  4. Vaccinations appointments and prescriptions

Visits for the above conditions will need to be paid by you, and will probably not be reimbursed by your insurance provider.

SEXUAL HEALTH TESTING COSTS – these fees are charged by Southern Community Laboratory and you will need to take your samples there and pay before they will process them.

• Chlamydia/gonorrhoea test is $58.50
• STI blood test – a handling fee of $24 and $22 to $24 per test

Did not arrives

Please ensure appointments are cancelled if no longer required. A $20 charge will be invoiced to all missed appointments.

A $10 billing fee is added to all accounts not paid on the day. All prices are subject to change without prior notification.

Cancellations

What if I can’t attend or need to change an appointment?

If you can’t attend or need to change an appointment, please let us know as soon as possible.

If you miss any appointment (DNA) you will be charged a fee of $20.00.

Help us to help you by ensuring all unwanted appointments are cancelled so that the appointment can be used by another student.



We encourage you to be punctual for your appointment. If you are over five minutes late for a GP or nursing appointment, it may be necessary to rebook the appointment for another time. Your receptionist will discuss this with you. In this case, there will be no charge for the late appointment.
