Invercargill is located in the South Island and is the gateway to some of the South Island’s most beautiful scenery. With a population of around 53,000, the city has a friendly atmosphere, with a sizeable student population.



What is it like to live in Invercargill?

Invercargill experiences a variable climate, with temperate summers and cold winters. Typical summer maximums can reach 23°C, and winter maximums are usually around 12°C. Frosts are frequent in winter, but persistent snow is uncommon, usually only reaching the low inland hills.

A service centre to the farming community, Invercargill is the perfect place to relax and experience rural New Zealand at its best. The city is easy to explore and is within easy reach of some of New Zealand’s most famous wildlife reserves including Stewart Island, Fiordland and the Catlins. The city boasts excellent shopping, cafes and restaurants in a modern, vibrant environment.
