After you have registered your identity with the University of Auckland you might be issued with a username. Once the University has issued you with a username you should use it when you sign into University services.
Your username is unique to you — like your ID number, nobody else has the same username as the one that has been created for you. These usernames are allocated to everybody who has established a relationship with the University of Auckland. Usernames usually contain up to four letters, followed by 3 digits, and are unique to each person — for example, “tuoa001”.
How do I get a username?
If you don’t already have a username you can get one by registering your identity online in our Enterprise Person Registry. This will allow us to issue you an ID number and a username which you can use when you sign into the University’s online services.

Can I change my username?
Usernames are generated automatically and they are not based on your preferences. It is created at the start of your formal relationship with the University and will remain the same even if some of your personal details change i.e. your name.
While we do attempt to ensure that the combination of letters and numbers included in usernames are not offensive there may be times when the resulting username could be considered insensitive. This might be based on your religious beliefs or culture, or it could be an offensive word in a language other than English. In exceptional cases we will review requests to change a username but this process may not result in the complete removal of the former username from all of our systems.

What is my username?The University of Auckland provides a username to all people who have a formal association with the University, including:
- Applicants who have applied for admission
- Students
- Staff
- Contractors
A username is usually based on the first letter of your first name, the first three letters of your surname followed by three digits, for example:
- kals782 – might be allocated to a person called Ken Alsebrook
- bwu921 – might be allocated to a person called Bernard Wu
You can use your username along with your password to login to the University of Auckland systems.
A username used to be known as your NetID or UPI.
