The University Of Waikato Scholarships

The University of Waikato offers several scholarships and bursaries for international students.  Some require an application while others are applied automatically. This page lists the scholarships and bursaries that are available to international students – as well as regulations, conditions and application procedures.

Scholarships

University of Waikato International Excellence Scholarship

Closing date: Applications for 2020 can be submitted at any time

This Scholarship is intended to support talented international students who are enrolling for the first time into undergraduate or postgraduate programmes at the University of Waikato. The Scholarships have a value of up to NZD$10,000, and will be awarded to successful applicants who demonstrate excellent academic achievement.

University of Waikato International Excellence – NZ School Leavers Scholarship

Closing date: 31 Aug 2020

For international students completing Year 13 at a NZ high school in 2020 and intending to enrol full-time in an undergraduate degree at UoW in A Trimester 2021. Students must have completed studying at NCEA Level 2 and achieved at least a Merit endorsement. University of Waikato Doctoral Scholarship

Closing date: 30 Sep 2020

It is only possible to apply for a UoW Doctoral Scholarship as part of the application to enrol process. That is why the ‘Apply Now’ button on the Scholarships page takes you to the University’s application to enrol page. When applying to enrol in a PhD, DMA, EdD, or SJD, prospective students will be able to indicate that they wish to also be considered for a UoW Doctoral Scholarship.

University of Waikato Research Masters Scholarship

Closing date: 31 Oct 2020

For students intending to enrol full-time in a 500-level thesis of 90-points or more as part of their first master’s degree at the University of Waikato. International students must have completed at least 120-points of study at a New Zealand university in order to be eligible for this Scholarship.

Bursaries

Tauranga Bursary

The Tauranga Bursary is to be offered to students who are enrolling at the University of Waikato for the first time at the University’s new Tauranga Campus. The bursary is valued at NZ$10,000 and will be applied to the recipient’s tuition fees at the beginning of their University of Waikato studies.



Master of Applied Finance International Bursary

The University of Waikato Master of Applied Finance International Bursary is available to international students who have applied for and received an offer for the Master of Applied Finance (180-points) in A trimester 2020. This bursary is valued up to NZ$5,000.

Master of Engineering Practice Bursary

The Master of Engineering Practice Bursary is to be offered to students who are enrolling at Waikato University for the first time in the University’s new Master of Engineering Practice qualification. The bursary is valued at NZ$10,000 and will be applied to the recipient’s tuition fees at the beginning of their University of Waikato studies.

International Bursary for Vietnamese Students

The Bursary is open to all Vietnamese citizens enrolling in a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate programme at the University of Waikato. Students who meet the University’s entry requirements for their programme of choice and receive an offer of place, will be offered an International Bursary for Vietnamese Students. This bursary is valued up to NZ$5,000.

High Achievement Bursary

The High Achievement Bursary for International Students aims to encourage talented international students at the University of Waikato. The Bursary is open to all international students, enrolling in a full-time undergraduate programme who achieve a B+ grade average over their first 120 points.  The Bursary is valued at NZ$5000 and will be deducted from the full international student fees for the second year of undergraduate study.

Waikato Pathways College International High Achiever Progression Bursary



Established in 2019, the Waikato Pathways College High Achiever Progression Bursary aims to encourage talented international students to study at the University of Waikato. The Bursary is valued at NZD$5000 and will be deducted from the full international student fees for the first year of subsequent undergraduate study. The Bursary is open to all international students, enrolling in a fulltime undergraduate programme, who studied the Certificate of Attainment in Foundation Studies, Certificate of University Preparation, International Diploma (Business) or International Diploma (Science) at Waikato Pathways College in the preceding 12 months.
