The University Of Waikato Foundation

The University of Waikato Foundation – Te Pou Taunaki – is an independent charitable trust, formed as the vehicle by which the university can receive funds and support its strategic objectives.

The Foundation is governed by an independent Board of Trustees which has a fiduciary duty to ensure all funds donated to the University are managed, invested and disbursed appropriately according to the wishes of donors. The University’s relationships with our benefactors and management of the Foundation’s activities are the responsibility of the Development Office.

The University of Waikato owes its existence to a community that fought hard for its establishment. After years of hard work, the University officially opened in 1964 with temporary buildings on what was largely farmland, accompanied by a handful of staff.

Now, more than 50 years later, the University of Waikato is a globally ranked university, home to more than 12,000 students and 84,000 alumni, and the breeding ground for independent thought and progressive learning.

We have a history of succeeding despite adversity. Now more than ever before New Zealand needs its young people to realise and live their potential, and for universities to support them in making an impact. With your support, we can help make this happen.

Help students feeling the financial effects of Covid-19

Many students are feeling the financial effects of the Covid-19 outbreak. Where once they could rely on part-time jobs to help fund their studies and living costs, many are finding their jobs have disappeared and as a result, are having trouble paying rent or buying groceries.

With your help, we can make sure those students feeling the financial effects of Covid-19 can continue their studies uninterrupted. Please support the University of Waikato Student Hardship Fund. Your help will go a long way to ensuring those students who are most financially at-risk have one less thing to worry about. Donate online now.
