Standard Chartered’s presence in Malaysia dates back to 1875, when our first branch opened for business at Beach Street, Penang – making us the country’s first and oldest bank.
Locally incorporated as Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad on 29 February 1984, we employ more than 7,000 people in our operations nationwide which includes our global shared service centre Standard Chartered Global Business Services (formerly known as Scope International), subsidiary Price Solutions, offshore facility in Labuan and head office at Equatorial Plaza in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
In November 2008, we set up the first and only Islamic Banking subsidiary in the group’s network. Standard Chartered Saadiq Berhad offers a comprehensive range of Syariah-compliant solutions through its digital branches as well as Islamic banking windows at Standard Chartered branches. We established Kuala Lumpur as our global hub for Islamic retail banking in 2012, with Standard Chartered Saadiq playing a key role in supporting international Islamic financing corridors.
We provide a comprehensive range of financial products and services to individuals as well as corporates and have deepened relationships with corporates by supporting their international expansion in our footprint markets. In recent years, we have established relationships with public sector and sovereign wealth fund clients.
