Standard Bank Quants Graduate Programme

Standard Bank Quants Graduate Programme

Strong quantitative skills are essential in enabling us to understand, monitor and reduce risk in our global business. Our internal auditors collaborate with all levels of management on risk to ensure we have adequate risk controls in place and that our processes are effective so we can meet our organisational objectives.

On this 18 month programme you’ll experience a variety of business areas that deal with financial models and risk. You’ll also be joining one of the largest audit functions in South Africa, and a Group Internal Audit function that has over 300 people in 33 countries. This means our internal auditors need to keep up to date with all the latest business trends and changes to international standards.

Using your mathematical and statistical skills in a stimulating and challenging environment, you’ll enjoy the opportunity to develop your talents in a variety of areas that deal with financial models and risk. You’ll gain exposure to model development, model validation, scorecard development and stress testing in rotations across Corporate and Investment Banking, Personal and Business Banking and Group functions, including Group Risk.

You’ll also develop your experience of credit risk, market risk and internal audit, working on live projects in areas such as Market Risk, Credit Analytics and Portfolio Reporting, Group Credit Risk and Risk Capital, Group Capital Management and Group Internal Audit. If you prove your abilities, you may also have the chance to gain experience at one of our international offices.

At the end of the programme, you’ll be expected to work for at least a year in our Group Risk and Group Internal Audit teams.

Support for gaining professional qualifications

Throughout the programme, you’ll have access to training in a range of technical and personal skills to enable you to add value to our business. And if you’re looking to take Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Financial Risk Manager (FRM) or other relevant qualifications, we also offer financial help.

What you’ll need

You’ll need to be a South African citizen with a Bachelor’s degree with quantitative analysis, maths, statistics and/or financial management as a major. As well as educational qualifications, we’ll be looking for you to show us an analytical approach, an eye for detail and the adaptability to work in multi-skilled teams. Naturally, you’ll need to be a good communicator, with the character to remain rational and objective while working under pressure. As well as experience of using MS Office, you’ll ideally have the ability to code in SAS and Visual Basic.
