Caring for your community is easy when you bank with Nedbank. By joining Nedbank’s Proud About Paarl project, you will be contributing to the development of Paarl’s children.
With this project, a portion of your monthly banking fees will be used to solve some of the most pressing issues in the community of Paarl. We are working with the community of Paarl and Ranyaka Community Investment Managers to improve safety, provide nutritious meals, and train childcare professionals at centres for early-childhood development (ECD) across Paarl.
We are starting with ECD centres because research shows that providing stable conditions for children in their formative years decreases drug use in the future, and creates more job-ready youth.

WHAT IS THE PROUD ABOUT PAARL PROJECT?
Proud About Paarl is a partnership between Nedbank and the community of Paarl. For every client in Paarl who signs up, Nedbank will contribute a portion of its fees towards issues Paarl cares about. The community has identified supporting centres for early-childhood development (ECD) as the first priority.
The more people in Paarl who bank with Nedbank, the more issues Nedbank will be able to help the community tackle. And it won’t cost you as the client anything!
WHY PAARL?
Nedbank has a history with Paarl. It is part of our existing Places Programme, which focuses on sustainable development. We are partnering with Ranyaka Community Investment Managers in the Places Programme to ensure we are addressing the issues that the community cares about.
HOW DOES PROUD ABOUT PAARL WORK?
From now until the end of 2017 we will be allocating 2,5% of our clients’ monthly transactional maintenance fees towards initiatives that will help the town of Paarl grow and thrive. This allocation will be placed in a Nedbank trust account and disbursements to key projects will be managed by our partners, Ranyaka Community Investment Managers. The more people banking actively with Nedbank, the bigger the fund and the more we can do!
WHAT ISSUES WILL PROUD ABOUT PAARL START WITH?
The community of Paarl has identified ECD centers as the right place to start. Research shows that giving our children the right place to start in life makes our communities safer and stronger, and helps to ensure that we will have more young people ready and able to work in the future.
To support these ECD centres, Nedbank will be focusing on: improving safety; providing nutritious meals; and training childcare professionals.
WILL IT COST CLIENTS ANYTHING TO BE PART OF THE FUND?
No, it won’t. We are not increasing client maintenance fees, and we aren’t asking clients to contribute anything extra. All they have to do is make Nedbank their main bank and use their Nedbank transactional account. The cost is coming out of our pockets, not yours.
WHO BENEFITS FROM BEING PART OF THIS FUND?
The community – By addressing the urgent issues the community faces we make sure that lives are uplifted and improved.
YOU, the Paarl client – The initiative costs you nothing, but your community is uplifted and you get to contribute to a worthy cause in your own town.
Nedbank – With the successful implementation of this initiative, we will have a model that we can replicate throughout South Africa. Nedbank flourishes when our communities do.
IS THERE A SIMILAR NEDBANK COMMUNITY FUND IN MY PART OF THE COUNTRY?
Paarl is currently the only town where we are implementing this project. When this project succeeds in Paarl, we will understand how to take this model to other places in South Africa, ensuring success.
