School Leaver Scholarships


The Massey University Vice Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarship is our highest valued school leavers scholarship, offering up to 10 scholarships valued at a total of $21,000.

This scholarship was established to support new students enrolling at Massey University with a previous record of academic excellence, leadership, and community engagement and contribution.

You will need to have an academic record of excellence across subject areas, leadership roles both in and out of school, and contributions to the local, national and or international community.


The Massey University Academy of Sport Scholarships support new student athletes enrolling at Massey University with a previous record of high achievement in sport and who show future potential in their chosen sport.

We have up to 25 scholarships, valued at $5,000, which are typically awarded to athletes of national and international standard in their chosen sport. 

In addition to the scholarship, successful recipients also become members of the Massey University Academy of Sport. The Academy of Sport provides sport and academic support to each athlete including physical conditioning, nutrition, sports psychology, gym memberships, group topical seminars and training gear.  Academic Support provides one-on-one staff support, time management and academic planning, career advice and assistance with scheduling conflicts.

We will be looking for evidence of excellence in sport in the previous three years both inside and outside of the school context (e.g. provincial or national representative) as well as support from both your coach and the National Sporting Body (NSO).


The Massey Business School offers 20 scholarships annually, with a package valued at $10,000 of tuition fee payments and scholar development opportunities over the duration of the three year programe enrolment.

The Future Leaders Scholarship assists undergraduate students undertaking eligible programmes of study at Massey Business School and comprises of a tuition fee and developmental package.

We’re looking for school leavers with leadership potential. You will have been a leader of a school academic or cultural group, a sports captain, or a leader within a community group or organisation.

When choosing our recipients, we will consider your academic achievements along with your leadership skills and potential.   At least one quarter of the scholarships will be awarded to Māori and Pacific students.

For undergraduate students

Massey University offers a range of scholarships to support new students enrolling in undergraduate programmes with a previous record of high achievement.


The Massey University Undergraduate Scholarship offers up to 60 full-time and part-time scholarships valued at $5,000. These scholarships were established to support new students enrolling at Massey University who are undertaking university study for the first time. They are designed to acknowledge excellence and enable equity access to study for all students new to Massey undergraduate study. 

For postgraduate students

The Masterate and Doctoral scholarships are offered for the purpose of encouraging postgraduate research at Massey University and are awarded on academic ranking.

China Scholarship Council – Massey University PhD Scholars Programme

Massey University invites high achieving, excellent Chinese students to apply for PhD study in New Zealand with scholarship support from the China Scholarship Council (CSC) and the University. There are up to 10 scholarships available annually and applications for admission at Massey close on 15 January.
