Massey University Kainga Rua

Kāinga Rua hall is the ideal accommodation choice for students who have come straight from college or who are not ready to share a flat. The hall is five minutes from Massey’s Wellington campus.



  • Single and twin rooms, with en-suite bathrooms, for 155 residents.
  • Furnished with basic items. Residents are to bring their own towels and bedding (this is provided to international students only).
  • Suitable for students aged 17 to 21 years.
  • Shared common areas to cook and eat. Two shared lounges.
  • Open courtyards with grass areas for outdoor enjoyment. Study room and movie room.
  • Less than a five minute walk to campus and a one minute to Pukeahu Park.

Please note: Room rates include the deposit and cost of reasonable electricity use. Residents who use an excessive amount of electricity will pay the extra cost.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

International students must pay all accommodation fees in full. Domestic students can choose from four payment options:

  1. One lump sum payment for the 42-week agreement.
  2. Two payments for the 42-week agreement.
  3. One bulk payment, then 36 weekly payments of $130.00 from 5 March to 5 November 2021.
  4. One bulk payment, then 36 weekly payments of $150.00 from 5 March to 5 November 2021 (only available for twin share rooms)

Support

  • Eight residential staff are on-site to provide pastoral care.
  • Activities and events are held throughout the year, including weekly floor events. Basketball hoop available in the courtyard.
  • Social sports leagues run weekly during semester

Catering

Self-catered. Residents cook their own meals in the communal kitchens.

TUSSOCK MEAL PACKAGES

Meal packages are available from the campus café, Tussock. Residents can eat there or take meals away. Student ID cards will need to be presented to receive meals. Meal package credit can be used at the Pyramid and Museum cafés, however they only offer a limited menu.

Heating

All apartments have heating in common lounge.

Furniture

Basic furniture is provided. Single rooms come with one double bed and Twin rooms come with two single beds. Items that are not provided by the hall will need to be supplied by the residents. 

Laundry

Each block has two laundries, free of charge. 

Parking

Twenty-eight car parks with secure access are available for hire. Contact Residential staff to secure a car park before you arrive.

A free outdoor bike rack is available for residents.
