Massey University Halls Of Residence

Massey University has a variety of accommodation options across three campuses. Accommodation options include either catered or self-catered packages.



Dedicated and professional pastoral care teams provide 24/7 support to all residents. Each team has experience in education, social work, youth work and customer service. Residential Assistants live in the student accommodation. They welcome new residents, support them and create a fun and safe community.

All accommodation is smoke-free and some halls are alcohol-free.

Residents are responsible for cleaning their own bedrooms, apartments and studios. They must clean-up after themselves in communal spaces.

Auckland halls

Massey’s Auckland campus is in Albany, on Auckland’s North Shore. Local amenities include a shopping mall, cinema, libraries, and many cafes and restaurants. The campus is also a short drive to the excitement of Auckland’s central city and Viaduct Harbour.

Te Ōhanga Village is the hub for student living and located in the heart of Massey’s Auckland campus. The village consists of:

  • three catered halls of residence, with a total of 210 single bedrooms
  • self-catered apartments for 70 residents
  • 12 self-catered studio units.

It is the first and only five-star rated student accommodation village in New Zealand, and has a gold-star rating for its sustainability initiatives.

Pukeko Hall

Pukeko Hall is a catered hall ideal for students, aged 17 to 21 years, who want to be part of the student community. All rooms are single occupancy and fully furnished.

Tui Hall

Tui Hall is a catered hall ideal for students, aged 17 to 21 years, who want to be part of a student community. All rooms are single occupancy and fully furnished.

Weka Hall

Weka Hall is a catered hall ideal for mature students, aged 22 to 30 years, who want to be part of a student community. All rooms are single occupancy and fully furnished.

Matipo apartments

Matipo apartments are a self catered option for returning students or new students aged 21 to 25 years. The four and five bedroom apartments are, single occupancy and fully furnished with balcony access. 

Titoki apartments

Titoki apartments are a self catered option ideal for returning students or new students aged 21 – 25 years. The four and five bedroom apartments are, single occupancy and fully furnished, with balcony access. 

Tanekaha apartments and studio units

Tanekaha offers students aged 25 to 30 years self-catered, single occupancy, fully furnished apartments and studio units. 

Manawatū halls

Massey’s Manawatū campus is where is all began over 90 years ago. The historic buildings and beautiful gardens reflect the history of the campus. If you enjoy the outdoors, Manawatū halls is where you want to live. Walk or cycle the Manawatū River, go tramping or visit one of the nearby beaches. It’s all here!

Catered-comfort

Suitable for ages 17 to 23 years. 

Matai Hall

Matai Hall is ideal for first year students providing comfortable modern living. The hall offers spacious, fully furnished single occupancy rooms at the heart of the Manawatū campus. It’s just a short distance away from the Colombo Road bus stop, the library and Student Central.

Matai, Miro, Tawa and Totara are identical halls. 

Miro Hall

Miro Hall is ideal for first year students providing comfortable modern living. The hall offers spacious, fully furnished single occupancy rooms at the heart of the Manawatū campus. It’s just a short distance away from the Colombo Road bus stop, the library and Student Central.

Tawa Hall

Totara Hall

Colombo Hall

Colombo Hall is registered as a historic place, and is ideal for first year students. The hall offers light, spacious and fully furnished single occupancy rooms. It is centrally located and within short walking distance to the Colombo road bus stop, the library and the dining hall.

McHardy Hall

McHardy Hall has a prime location in the heart of the campus, overlooking the Oval, and is suited to first year students. It has spacious bedrooms and a homely feel.

Walter Dyer Hall

Walter Dyer Hall is our largest hall with 94 bedrooms. It is located on Monro Hill, a 5 minute walk from the centre of campus. It is modern and spacious with fully furnished single occupancy rooms.

Bindaloe Hall

Bindaloe Hall has its own special character and sits alongside Craiglockhart Hall on Monro Hill. It is only a 5 minute walk to the centre of campus. This is a female only hall, fully furnished, single occupancy rooms of differing sizes.

Craiglockhart Hall

Craiglockhart Hall is registered as a historic place. It has its own special character and sits alongside Bindaloe Hall on Monro Hill. It is only a 5 minute walk to the centre of campus. This is a female only hall, fully furnished, single occupancy rooms of differing sizes.



Catered-relaxed

Suitable for ages 17 to 23 years.

City Court

City Court is currently closed until Semester 1 2021.

It is a catered hall with six-bedroom, fully furnished units. Residents are close to Massey’s sports and recreation facilities and five minutes from Concourse.

Egmont Court

Egmont Court is closed until Semester 2 2021. 

It is a catered hall with six-bedroom, fully furnished units. Residents are close to Massey’s sports and recreation facilities and five minutes from Concourse.

Moginie Hall

Moginie Hall is one of six halls on Monro Hill, with a five minute walk to campus. It is situated alongside the Monro car park and one of our Massey farms. Students on Monro hill share laundry facilities and a large common facility that overlooks Palmerston North.

Bindaloe Hall

Bindaloe Hall has its own special character and sits alongside Craiglockhart Hall on Monro Hill. It is only a 5 minute walk to the centre of campus. This is a female only hall, fully furnished, single occupancy rooms of differing sizes.

Kiwitea Hall

Kiwitea Hall is a small hall located next to the YFC building which houses our Residential Life Team, Kaingarua and the fale Pasifika. It is just across the car park from the Tree Halls and is close to both the centre of campus and the recreation centre. 

Self-catered

Suitable for ages 19 years and over. 

Ruahine Hall

Ruahine Hall is a self-catered hall offering six-bedroom, fully furnished units. Located 5 minutes from campus, it is suitable for mature and returning students.

Tararua Hall

Tararua Hall is a self-catered hall offering six-bedroom, fully furnished units. Located 5 minutes from campus, it is suitable for mature and returning students.

Kairanga Court

Kairanga Court is a self-catered hall best suited to mature and returning students. Units consist of four single bedrooms, a kitchen and bathroom facilities. It is centrally located with a 2 minute walk to main campus.

Rotary Court

Rotary Court is a self-catered hall best suited to mature and returning students. Units consist of four single bedrooms, a kitchen and bathroom facilities. It is centrally located with a 2 minute walk to main campus.

Atawhai community

Atawhai is located on a sunny ridge above the Manawatū campus. Residents have a short but steep 10 minute walk to campus. Suitable for postgraduate and mature students.

Private

Fergusson Hall

Fergusson hall is owned and operated by a Charitable Trust. It’s situated on spacious grounds with views out across the city, and a 10 minute walk to campus. It’s self-catered and suitable for ages 17 to 23 years.

Wellington halls

Wellington is a diverse and dynamic city with New Zealand’s most creative campus! It’s all at your door when you live at a Massey hall of residence.

Residents of The Cube and Kāinga Rua halls share activities and events that foster academic success and build strong life skills. The pastoral care team make sure the experience is cohesive and positive for all hall residents with their 24/7 support.

The Cube

Shared apartment living for first and second year students. Single and mixed gender apartments and furnished with basic items. Five minutes to campus and Wellington’s CBD. Suitable for students aged 17 to 21 years.

Kāinga Rua

Single and twin en-suite rooms for first and second year students. Furnished with basic items. Five minutes to campus and one minute to Wellington’s CBD. Suitable for students aged 17 to 21 years.

Halls of Residence Car Parking

2020 Halls of Residence parking is $120.00 per semester plus a $20.00 bond for an access card as entry into the car park (if required). The bond is refundable at the end of the semester when the access card is returned in working order. Failure to return these cards within a month of the semester finishing will result in a forfeit of bond.

Residents are required to register their vehicle with Traffic & Security. Car parking is available on a first-come-first-served basis; the completion of the application will not guarantee you a space.

Parking is on a per semester basis, each semester residents must re-apply.

Confirmation of your Halls of Residence address from Residential Services is required before application.
