Lincoln University Free Postgraduate

With the food and fibre sectors calling for more qualified professionals, we’re offering a range of free programmes to domestic students from July 2020 until the end of 2021. It’s our way of helping to meet the post-COVID needs of the New Zealand economy.

Whether you want to enhance your employability after completing an undergraduate degree, make a career change, or undertake tertiary study for the first time, these programmes present a multitude of opportunities:



  • Graduate Certificates
  • Graduate Diplomas
  • Postgraduate Certificates
  • Pathway Certificate for MPA Entry
  • Postgraduate Diplomas (the fees waiver does not apply to the Postgraduate Diploma in Water Resource Management or the Postgraduate Diploma in Disaster Risk and Resilience)
  • Taught Master’s (the fees waiver does not apply to the Master of Disaster Risk and Resilience or the second semester of the Master of Precision Agriculture)
  • Certificate in University Studies (available online or on-campus)
  • Research Master’s: the fees waiver applies to the 120 taught credits of all research master’s degrees, but not to the 120 research credits (the fees waiver does not apply to any of the credits associated with the Master of Natural Resources Management and Ecological Engineering)

To access the fee waiver, simply apply for the programme you would like to pursue. If you’re accepted into the programme, the fees waiver will be applied automatically. 

You’ll only need to cover course-related costs (such as buying textbooks) and the Student Services Fee (although if you are studying online, this fee may be reduced• • ).

Government-funded fee waivers for domestic students


To support domestic students into jobs in the food and fibre sectors, the Government’s Targeted Training and Apprenticeship Fund is covering course costs for four Lincoln University sub-degree programmes from July 2020 until December 2022. 

No previous tertiary study experience is necessary and you can go on to study for a degree or head straight into a job. 

Apply for one of these programmes and enhance your employability by learning specific skills for an essential growth industry:

  • Diploma in Horticulture (you can begin studying for this diploma in July, 2020)
  • Diploma in Horticultural Business
  • Diploma in Horticultural Management
  • Diploma in Agriculture
  • Diploma in Farm Management
  • Diploma in Organic Agri-Food Production

Each programme includes a practical work component, which involves spending time working on a relevant farm or business, ensuring that you are industry-ready as soon as you graduate. 

This funding is separate from the Government’s Fees Free scheme, which you will still be able to access at the end of your programme.
