Discover more about our field trips and tours, which may involve costs.
These may be visits, for example, to a business, farm or factory held during class time or on specified field trip days.
Tours are of longer duration and may be held during vacations.
The cost of all trips and tours are included in the tuition fees.
A multiple day field tour is a requirement of the Bachelor of Viticulture and Oenology and the Graduate Diploma in Viticulture and Oenology. The tour is usually held in August of every year. Students take this trip in their final second semester of the degree, or in the year of the Graduate Diploma.
Landscape students are required to take one field tour in the course of their degree.
Regulations
Where a course involves a field trip or tour, this is a compulsory component. The only exception to this rule is where a Partial Waiver of Assessment has been granted. You need to complete the partial waiver of assessment form and pay the fee. The examiner would then review your previous enrolment in the course and decide whether he/she would be prepared to waive the requirement to take the field trip again.
If you fall ill and cannot attend a trip or tour, or if you cannot attend because of some other critical circumstances (such as bereavement), then you must approach the examiner where possible in advance and present a medical certificate, counsellor’s report, death notice or other evidence in support of your application to be exempt from attendance.
Only students enrolled in the subject, which has a field trip/tour, may go on university trips and tours. Family members (including dependents), friends and others are not permitted on the trip/tour.
While on tour, students may not charge toll calls, mini bar charges, entertainment and other expenses to the tour accounts. These should be paid for by the student concerned while on tour.
Enquiries concerning what is involved in a given trip or tour should be directed to the subject examiner.
There are five field trip days in each semester – these are listed on the Key Dates page.
