You’ll find a wide range of resources, spaces and support ready when you need it at the Library.
Readings for your course
Course readings, including online journal articles and book chapters, are available on Blackboard. Find these using the Course Resources button in your course or ask your lecturer, or go directly to Course Resources.
Print books, journals or DVDs listed on your Course Resources reading lists are held in the Short Loan collection in the relevant campus Library:
- City: Level 4 behind the Library Help Desk
- North Shore: Level 1 next to the Library Help Desk
- South: The first shelves of the book collection
Be sure to get the call number for each item since you’ll need to know that to find what you want.
- Borrowing time is 2 hours or 3 days, depending on the item. We allow renewals as long as no one else has requested the item.
- You can borrow short loans with a ‘D’ call number for 2 hours and items with a ‘DL’ call number for 3 days.
Library skills & writing
Find writing examples for different types of assignment and other self-help resources under the Doing Assignments menu (above).
Information on your subject guides help you find and use Library resources for your coursework.
The Library offers a range of workshops to support your study and research. Sign up for a workshop to improve your searching and writing skills.
Borrowing
Have your current AUT ID card with you or the AUT App ID view in order to borrow Library items. Borrowing limits and renewals vary with membership.
If an item you have borrowed is requested by someone else, it will be recalled from you. An email will be sent to your AUT email address with its shortened borrowing time.
We know that distance study has extra challenges. The Library provides services and help to support distance students. In addition, the Library works alongside AUT’s Disability Student Support to ensure students with impairments have access to all our resources.

Studying in the Library
AUT Libraries are study environments for all students with varied study spaces, computers, workshop rooms, printing and scanning facilities and Library and IT help.
- Collaborative study areas – Space for you to study with others.
- Silent study areas – Space for individual silent study.
- Group Study Rooms – Book online using your AUT username and password. Markers for the whiteboards are available from Library Help desks. Note: these rooms are not soundproof.
- Study computers – Book online or use the walk-up computers.
- Printers/photocopiers are located at various locations. Login to these devices by swiping your student ID card or log in with your network login and password on the touchscreen. Web printing is also available to allow you to print from your own devices on the AUT network. Finally, PinkLime provides a range of digital print and document finishing services.
To maintain an effective study environment for everyone we do ask that:
- Food and drink be limited to cold, non-messy foods and drinks in drink bottles or cups with lids.
- All devices (laptops, phones, tablets etc) be on mute and silent use. Please keep phone calls outside the library (including collaborative study areas). Headphones can be borrowed from Library Help desks.
Be careful of your valuables – the library is a public space and you leave anything unattended at your own risk.
