How do I plan my Bachelor of Commerce Degree?

From financial markets to the latest management practices and the rapidly expanding world of online commerce, a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) at UC gives you the knowledge and skills to succeed in a global business environment.



UC and its business partners provide many opportunities for you to gain practical business experience and make important contacts.

How do I plan my degree?

Typical degree structure for Bachelor of Commerce

  •   Commerce major courses (minimum requirements)
  •   Other Commerce courses
  •   Courses from Commerce or other degrees
(1) Or an alternative course as provided by the Dean of Business.
(2) BSNS 299 is a 0-point, no fees course.

Each small block represents a 15-point course. However, some courses may be 30 points (or more).

The Bachelor of Commerce degree requires a minimum total of 360 points:

  • at least 255 points from Commerce courses (up to 60 points of Mathematics and/or Statistics at 100 or 200-level may be included in the 255 points)
  • the remaining 105 points can be from Commerce courses or courses from other degrees.

A minimum of 225 points must be from courses above 100-level, with at least 90 points at 300-level.

The degree takes 3 years of full-time study, or can be studied part-time for up to 10 years.

Majors and minors

Students have the option of completing either:

  • a major
  • a major and a minor
  • two majors (a double major)

Each major has specific course requirements, but all consist of a minimum 120 points, with at least 45 points at 200-level and at least 60 points at 300-level.



BCom students may also choose to complete a minor subject in their degree. A minor consists of a minimum of 75 points, including at least 45 points above 100-level, in a single subject chosen from the Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of ArtsBachelor of ScienceBachelor of Sport Coaching, or in Youth and Community Leadership.

Double degrees

It is possible to combine a Bachelor of Commerce degree with other degrees, such as the Bachelor of ArtsBachelor of ScienceBachelor of Forestry Science, and Bachelor of Engineering with Honours. A Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws is a highly marketable combination.

Conjoint degrees

Students can study the Conjoint Bachelor of Product Design and Commerce, the Conjoint Bachelor of Arts and Commerce, or the Conjoint Bachelor of Commerce and Science, which requires 60 points less than a double degree and will be completed in four years in an intensive format.

For example, students may want to study the Industrial Product Design BProdDesign major with the Marketing BCom major, or the Management BCom major with the Psychology BSc major.
