In 1995, Habib Bank AG Zurich expanded its operations into Southern Africa with the establishment of a locally incorporated Bank, HBZ Bank Limited. With an initial capital investment of R 50 million HBZ Bank Limited represents the first major investment in South Africa by a Swiss Banking Group. HBZ Limited now has nine branches in South Africa including an Islamic Banking branch in Westville.
