E-Waste Massey University

Ewaste.org.nz is a not for profit organization providing electronic waste recycling events around Auckland. Aim is to increase public awareness on e-waste recycling by providing easy and efficient services through ewaste events.

E-WASTE EVENTS

All our events start on a Saturday morning at 9am and finishes at 3pm. On the event day, our staff will set up a drive thru point at the event location and anyone can drive in to the location where our staff will unload any electronic waste from your vehicle. Once all electronics are unloaded, you can drive out and that’s it!

All workers at our recycling events receive training, safety equipment and supervision in health, safety and environmental risks.

Our events are run by the support of local school and church. Please DO NOT drop off any ewaste before or after the event. Cameras will be operating on site.

WHAT HAPPENS TO ALL THE ELECTRONICS COLLECTED ON THE E-DAY?

Ewaste.org.nz is committed to recycling e-waste responsibly. All the electronics collected at each event goes to our partner recycler who are certified with ISO (International Standard Organization) 14001: Environmental Management System and 9001: Quality Management System.

WHAT IS ELECTRONIC WASTE?

Electronic waste also called e-waste is a term for electronic products that are obsolete or non-working. Commonly known electronic products are computers, Televisions, stereos. Printers, mobile phones etc. Most of electronic products can be reused, refurbished or recycled.

WHY RECYCLE WASTE ELECTRONICS?

ㆍElectronic waste contains rich source of raw materials that can be recovered. Amount of precious metals contained

within an electronic waste is much richer than ores mined from the earth.

ㆍAs much as it contains precious metals, electronic waste also contains toxic materials such as lead, mercury, chromium and etc. Improper handling can not only pollute the environment but harm the human health.

ㆍE-waste is the fastest growing waste stream in the world. With a limited number of recyclers in New Zealand, huge number of e-waste are ending up in our landfill. Recycling electronic waste can reduce the solid waste generation.
