Tips to help you stay cyber safe while you’re a student at AUT.
Password protect devices
Long passphrases and strong passwords need:
- 8 characters or more
- A mix of capital letters and lower-case letters
- Numbers or symbols
Never give out your password
How to reset your password
- Visit https://networkservices.aut.ac.nz
- Check that the URL displays AUT’s full name in green: ‘Auckland University of Technology’
- Click on the Password Help > Select ‘Change Password’
Secure your data
- Back up your data
- Update operating system
- Update anti-virus software
Can you trust it? Get advice before you click
- Beware of unusual looking emails
- Be cautious of links to unknown websites
- You should send suspect emails as attachments to [email protected]
- Report suspect activity or websites containing AUT information to the ICT Service Desk
Keep your privates private
- Check your privacy settings on social media sites regularly
- Limit identity information that you share about yourself
- Don’t use unsecured Wi-Fi connections for banking or sensitive data
