Auckland University Of Technology Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours) / Bachelor of Global Studies Conjoint

We’ve designed the Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours) with budding scientists in mind. It’s for students who want to pursue postgraduate research.

By taking a conjoint with a Bachelor of Global Studies, you can expand your outlook as you’re exposed to new ways of thinking about the world. As you gain competency in another language you’ll deepen your understanding of other cultures and perspectives. This will prepare you for international research collaboration.

You will complete an independent scientific research project in your final year under the guidance of a mentor.

Programme structure

You must complete a total of 660 points:

  • 375 points from the BAdvSci(Hons)
  • 255 points from the BGlobalSt
  • 15 points from General Education
  • 15 points from courses available for any programme

You can choose one specialisation for the BAdvSci(Hons) component of your conjoint, and you will usually take four or five BAdvSci(Hons) courses each year. You can also choose to take one or more modules available in the Bachelor of Science Schedule.

You will choose from one of four majors for the BGlobalSt component of your conjoint:

  • Global Environment and Sustainable Development
  • Global Politics and Human Rights
  • International Relations and Business
  • Transnational Cultures and Creative Practice

You will take core courses in Global Studies. You will also study a language and a related area of the world. Find out more about the Bachelor of Global Studies.

You would usually enrol in eight 15-point courses (120 points) each year. If you want to complete in four years, you can enrol in nine 15-point courses (135 points) each year (including Summer School). Enrolling in five courses in a semester is not advisable for Global Studies students. You need to maintain a Grade Point Average of 5.0 each year to continue with your conjoint.
