Auckland University Of Technology Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours) Conjoint

Blend your advanced scientific knowledge and research skills with a wide range of subjects in the humanities, social sciences, cultures and languages.

Programme overview

We have designed the Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours) with budding scientists in mind. It’s for students who want to pursue postgraduate research.

By taking a conjoint with a Bachelor of Arts you can combine your scientific specialisation with a wide range of subjects in the humanities, social sciences, cultures and languages. This conjoint will enhance your scientific research and critical thinking skills.

You could prepare for international research collaborations by studying a language, or explore mātauranga Māori and ways in which it can be incorporated into scientific research.

You will complete an independent scientific research project in your final year under the guidance of a mentor.

Programme structure

You must complete a total of 660 points:

  • 375 points from the BAdvSci(Hons)
  • 255 points from BA courses
  • 15 points from General Education
  • 15 points from courses available for any programme

You can choose one specialisation for the BAdvSci(Hons) component of your conjoint. You can also choose to take one or more modules available in the Bachelor of Science Schedule.

You can choose up to two subjects as your major(s) for the BA component of your conjoint, and you will usually take four or five BA courses each year.

You will usually enrol in nine 15-point courses (135 points) each year if you want to complete in five years. You need to maintain a Grade Point Average of 5.0 each year to continue with your conjoint.

Most students need to take one or two General Education courses.

Students should also be aware of the University’s Academic English Language Requirement. For all official programme information, including regulations about entry, enrolment, fees, examinations, and requirements for degrees, diplomas and certificates, see the University Calendar.

Where could this programme take you?

Our BA/BAdvSci(Hons) will give you a strong foundation to continue in postgraduate research. As artificial intelligence and robotics challenge traditional ways of working, your enduring critical thinking and communication skills will future-proof your career. You will be well prepared to pursue an international scientific career, or contribute directly to research here in New Zealand.
