Auckland University Of Technology EndNote for Mac

EndNote is a reference management programme widely used by AUT staff and students.

It is designed to

  • Store and organise references
  • Import references from article databases and catalogues
  • Instantly generate bibliographies in different referencing styles
  • Sync with Word to insert in-text citations and full references directly into assignments
  • Support collaboration by making it easy to share references

You still need to know how to reference

  • You need a working knowledge of APA (or Chicago/Turabian for Art & Design) to enter references manually or to correct imported references which often have minor errors
  • Some references require non-intuitive choices of EndNote Reference type and / or fields within that Reference type to produce APA-compliant citations. Check the APA 7th & EndNote or the APA 6thEndNote section of this guide if you are having trouble
  • For detailed instructions on referencing generally check our APA 7th Referencing Style Guide, or APA 6th Referencing Style Guide or our Chicago/Turabian Referencing Guide

Previous versions of EndNote

  • This guide supports X9 and X8, the version available for download or access by AUT staff and students

What’s New in EndNote X9?

1. EndNote X9 gives you greater ease and control in coordinating with your colleagues. After you synced your desktop and online libraries:

  • you can share your complete library with either read-write or read-only access rights;
  • you can share custom groups in your library with other EndNote online users from your desktop library;
  • you can view a list of the groups shared with you through EndNote online from your desktop library and use them as shortcuts to EndNote online.

2. EndNote X9 provides new references types – citing social and other electronic media will be easier with your new reference types.

3. EndNote X9 has increased integration with Web of Science:

  • you can access Web of Science source or related records, or create a citation report, from your EndNote library.
  • you can create a Web of Science citation report for a group of references from your EndNote library.

4. You can use manuscript matcher to find journals that might be interested in publishing your work from your EndNote library or from a Word document.
