The UCAT (University Clinical Aptitude Test) has replaced the UMAT (Undergraduate Medicine and Health Sciences Admission Test) as part of the admission process for Medicine and Dentistry.
The UCAT test offers benefits to you and the University of Otago:
- The UCAT is a 2-hour long computer-based test
- You receive your score immediately after completing the test without having to wait for marking
- You can choose the date and time when you sit the test (as long as it’s within a specific window of time)
- There is a wide network of testing centres across New Zealand, Australia, and internationally.
- The test is similar to the UMAT but with new question formats, and the addition of a test of Situational Judgment (SJT), which measures desirable attitudes and behaviours for successful healthcare professionals
- The test has been shown to be a reliable and valid predictor of performance at medical school
- Consortium member universities in New Zealand and Australia benefit from the efficiency and flexibility of the testing process
