We have your future in mind
Covid-19 has had a significant impact on New Zealand secondary school students, especially those making plans to start University. To support the future success of senior school students, we’ll be changing the entry requirements to our programmes for 2021.
We are also removing Table A and B requirements and making early Offers for all students.
What do I need to know?
Apply early and you’ll receive an Offer.
This Offer letter will explain what you need to achieve this year to secure your entry to the University and your programme of choice in 2021.
2021 entry requirements
We will broaden our entry pathways and place a stronger emphasis on your Year 12 results. If your Year 12 results aren’t strong – don’t worry, apply anyway. We’ll let you know what you need to secure entry to your preferred programme, plus you may receive an Offer to an alternate programme. Your application for your preferred programme will be re-assessed once Year 13 results are available.

Early Programme Offers (Fast Track Offers) | Strong Year 12 results (across completed NCEA Level 2 and Level 3 subjects, or equivalent Cambridge International or IB results) + UE, once achieved.Achievement of specific subject requirements for Engineering and Nursing programmes. |
Early Conditional Offers | Year 12 results + UE, once achieved + specific Year 13 requirements (across completed NCEA Level 2 and Level 3 subjects, or equivalent Cambridge International or IB results) where required.Other requirements may apply which will be specified in the Offer letter. |
Table A & B requirements | Removed (suspended for NCEA and Cambridge International) for the 2021 academic year, except for Engineering and Nursing programmes where specific subject requirements still apply.This removal also applies to Gap Year students.A more permanent decision on A and B tables is under consideration. |
Discretionary entrance | If UE is not achieved, in certain circumstances, Year 13 students can be considered under Discretionary Entrance for Semester One 2021. |
Additional support | Support for catch-up credits on campus over Summer for those who have not achieved UE.Additional preparation available through enhanced science and mathematics support drawing on the University’s STEM Online NZ programme, Unibound and Tertiary Foundation Certificate. |
There are a number of options being planned to help students with their preparation for Semester 1 2021, including Summer School catch-up credits. We are still working through these and will be able to advise shortly.
