The Employability Lab hosts a number of events like career fairs, expos and presentations where – as potential employees – students and graduates can meet employers. We also run regular career development workshops and recruitment events.
Workshops and employer presentations
Employers are on campuses almost every week participating in lunchtime or leadership speaker series, industry panels and talks about potential employment with their organisation, including internship and graduate opportunities.
Past presenters include Samsung Electronics NZ, MYOB, Deloitte, BNZ, NZME, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Counties Manukau DHB and AR/VR Garage.
Speaker series
A great leader’s insights about their career journey can be very powerful.
AUT attracts a diverse and interesting number of speakers, including:
- Media personality and te reo advocate Stacey Morrison
- North Harbour Basketball Director of Talent Development Vince Minjares
- Counties Manukau CEO Margie Apa
- Green Party MP Chloe Swarbrick
- Start-up entrepreneur Scott Cardwell
Graduate presentations: hear from AUT alumni
Many AUT graduates return to AUT to talk to students about their experiences in the workplace. This is a great way to hear about the transition into the workplace and pick up tips about how to approach an organisation and what employment is like in the ‘real world’.
Industry panels
Industry experts and graduates are invited to industry panels to give students more in-depth understanding of specific industry needs, expectations and challenges. Science, ICT, business, hospitality, tourism and engineering representatives have all participated in industry panels at AUT.
Match Ready workshops: prepare for career fairs
Career fairs, expos and event series
During the academic year we host a number of bigger, specialist events that employers attend. They’re an excellent opportunity for you to network with prospective employers and get information about organisations.
Career fairs
Career fairs offer valuable real contact with employers from some of New Zealand’s leading businesses and entrepreneurial organisations.
Career fairs are faculty-specific, bringing large numbers of employers onto campus on a single day. Employers set up stands so students can approach them to discuss graduate roles and internship possibilities. Many students successfully secure roles through career fairs.
The fairs attract corporates, start-ups, government agencies and health organisations, among others.
There are no career fairs planned for the remainder of 2020, but all career fairs will be running again next year.
Employability MattCCers: week-long series of employer events on campus
Run each semester, Employability Matters is a week-long series of on-campus presentations, workshops and panel discussions for AUT students.
Employability Matters attracts top employers and industry leaders onto campus who are keen to interact with students, offer advice and talk about the career opportunities in their industries. This is a stress free way for students to mix and network with employers after presentations.
Employers are always on the look out for potential talent, so even if they’re not doing a graduate recruitment drive they are still keen to meet students and find out what you’re doing and have to offer. Come and be inspired!
Past employers include Samsung Electronics NZ, Haka Tours, Foodstuffs, Spacetime, Revolution Creative, Disney Cultural Exchange.
Next dates
- 2020, Semester 2: Monday 28 September to Friday 2 October
