Massey University Yoga

Yoga is a great way to gently introduce physical activity to your life. As well as reducing stress, it can help alleviate discomfort related to lack of flexibility or repetitive movement.

Physical activity contributes to stress reduction, improves the ability to sleep, memory and concentration.

Vinyasa Yoga is a flowing, dynamic sequence of poses. Also sometimes called “Vinyasa Flow Yoga,” this type of practice involves synchronizing the breath with a continuous flow of postures.

“I’ve tried all the different yoga classes in Palmerston North. I found them so frustrating – they were just a relaxing stretch to music with no attention to breathing or the intended effect of poses on the body – until I found Ambika. Ambika teaches a modified vinyasa/ashtanga class. She will correct you and help you understand and improve your yoga practice. It’s not just about touching your toes or whatever, but what muscles you should be feeling and where it should be coming from. That and a bit of hard work and you will

BEGINNING

The first two classes of each month return to the very basics of the practice. These are ideal for absolute beginners as often these classes are slower and less technical than others.

If you have done some yoga before, or are reasonably fit with a good level of body awareness, you are more than welcome to join the classes at any stage of the month.

Unfortunately it may not be appropriate for those with significant injuries, health issues or women who are pregnant. Please contact David if you are interested, to discuss possible modifications and alterations.

LAST CLASS OF THE MONTH

Over the course of a calendar month, classes progressively become more physically and technically challenging, matching pace with participants abilities. The second to last class of the month is often the ‘peak’ class, where all the preparation work in the earlier parts of the month come together.

The last class of the month, participants are encouraged to make a request for a pose, meditation or pranayama that they would like included in the class. Everyone’s contribution then co-create the final class of the month.
