On 14 May 1881 a team of players from School of Agriculture played their first game against Southbridge, one of the longest established Canterbury clubs. The foundation College team lined out as: Full-back: Charles Wood, Half backs: E. H. Rogers, H. A. Knight (Captain), Quarter-backs: J. R. H. McKenzie, H. Lance, Forwards: D. MacPherson, E. LINCOLN UNIVERSITY RUGBY SCHOLARSHIP
History of award
Established in 1998 by Lincoln University in conjunction with the Canterbury Rugby Football Union.
Purpose
To assist young elite rugby talent in achieving an academic qualification, without the financial burden of course fees at Lincoln University. New and Current students may apply.
Eligibility
• NZ citzen or permanent resident
• New and Current students may apply.
• Applicants must have gained NCEA Level Three Certificate, including University Entrance, (or an equivalent entrance qualification) and be eligible to enter university by February of the year following their application. Applicants will also be considered from students who are currently enrolled in alternative study programmes.
• Must have played for a secondary school First XV team or be an age-group representative player.
